Creating a Space
A Space is the entity under which you run events. Before you can create events, configure badges or invite collaborators, you need to create at least one Space.
Prerequisites
- An Emblema account with the legal terms accepted.
- An early-adopter quota assigned to your account (see below).
The Space role is currently gated by a per-account quota
(maxOwnedSpaces) managed by Emblema staff. Without a quota you cannot
create your first Space and you cannot activate the Space role for the first
time.
If you try to create a Space without a quota, the platform responds with
SPACE_QUOTA_NOT_ALLOWED or SPACE_QUOTA_EXCEEDED and points you to
support.
To request a quota, contact support@emblema.live with:
- The email of your Emblema account.
- The community / organization the Space will represent.
- A short description of the events you plan to run.
Activate the Space role and create the Space
- Sign in to Emblema and open
/dashboard. - From the role selector, choose Space. You are redirected to
/dashboard/space. - Click Create a Space — it opens
/dashboard/space/new. - Fill in:
- Name — the display name shown on the public page.
- Username (slug) — the unique handle in the public URL
/space/<slug>. Lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. Must not be already taken by another Space. - Category — see the overview for the list. You cannot change it later from the UI; if you need to change it after creation, contact support.
- Short description for the public page header.
- Logo (square image, PNG/SVG/JPG; ~512×512 recommended).
- Country and city (optional, useful for local communities).
- Submit. The platform creates the Space and you become its Owner.
The Space dashboard is at /dashboard/space/<id> once created.
After creation
Right after creating the Space you can:
- Configure branding and public page.
- Invite collaborators (Editors, Reviewers, etc.).
- Create your first event.
- Define the Open Badges issuer profile that will sign the Open Badges you issue (see Issuing badges).
Multiple Spaces
The quota controls how many Spaces you can own. With a quota of 1 you
can own one Space; with 2 you can own two; and so on. You can be invited
into other Spaces as a non-owner without consuming your quota.
Archiving a Space
If you stop running events under a Space, you can archive it from the Space settings. Archiving:
- Removes the Space from the public Space list.
- Keeps existing badges valid (Open Badges remain verifiable forever).
- Frees the slug for future re-use only after a manual review.
Troubleshooting
SPACE_QUOTA_NOT_ALLOWED— your account does not have a quota yet. Reach out to support.SPACE_QUOTA_EXCEEDED— you already created the maximum number of Spaces allowed by your quota. Archive an existing Space or request a larger quota.- Slug not available — pick a different one; Emblema keeps a reservation list of system slugs.
